IKOQWE study the human species in mini documentary

Fresh from their first album, the Angolan aliens present a video conceived as an “audiovisual logbook on humans, rather than a self-promotional tool”.

For the record, IKOQWE was born from the union of Pedro Coquenão, known as Batida, an Angolan-born Lisbon-based activist artist considered one of the leaders of the new wave of African electronic music, and Luaty Beirão, aka Ikonoklasta, an Angolan rapper who has become an iconic activist since the 2011 protests. The masked duo has filled up 2021 with The Beginning, the Medium, the End and the Infinite, their debut album, and the remix project Falta Muito? EP, both released on Crammed Discs

A reflection on our societies, their new mini-documentary, directed by David Beaugier, is the result of an alien experiment on the human race, with all the trademark IKOQWE absurdity and humour. It also contains archive footage that illustrates George Orwell’s famous quote from Animal Farm: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” The featured track, “Falta Muito?”, is a collaboration with South African artist Spoek Mathambo from their debut album.

The Beginning, the Medium, the End and the Infinite by IKOQWE, still available.
